Momentum Shift

I want to talk about the best football club in the world!

Not American football, which is mostly played with your hands, but real football played with your feet!!

Chelsea!

Many of us follow a team and many of us are passionate about our teams. Hopefully we follow them in sickness and in health! Yesterday Chelsea were on death watch in the first half against West Ham. The fans in the home ground of Stamford Bridge booed them off the field. That cannot be a good feeling, no matter how much money is in your account. Where else do you see multi millionaires looking hang dog other than in the merciless ebbs and flows of sports?

What happened in the second half was a momentum shift. This is a powerful force. Imagine the ocean or sea as it gathers itself, dragging sand and pebbles, helpless crabs and everything it can muster into a majestic wave that then thunders back on shore conquering all beneath it.

That was Chelsea in the second half. Admittedly they made several changes from their first half field but, from two goals down, they dominated the second half with 72 percent possession and 3 goals to seize victory.

If the momentum is against us, how do we get it back? Take a moment, breathe, shut out the negative and focus on the positive. Do not allow yourself to make excuses.

At 60, the momentum is one way. There is no reversing age, unless scientists and their smart AI agents come up with something extraordinary. We shouldn't count them out in the light of recent technological pole vaults. For the moment, however, us sexagenarians are hurtling towards diapers and dribbling. We can't deny the inevitable, at the moment, so we must seize our own version of momentum and make the journey fun.

My version of controlling the ride into the sun that must set is playing tennis, unsurprisingly! Getting better at tennis; getting more strategic at tennis and, of course, winning more tennis matches with my renewed momentum!

There's also close friendships to nurture; people in need to help; trying something new, maybe pickleball??

Keeping the momentum means goals, setting them and working at them. And if it does come to diapers sooner than later, I hear they are now producing some high end silk lined versions. Things are looking up!!

Of course these are designed to be hacked through with a machete. Except at 60 you are starting to get a little resistant. I get up at 6.30, let the dogs out, make the coffee which has to be made in a
